1000 Acorn Challenge

Sun 30 September, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

£1.50

We want to help the Oak tree and establish a community oak section in the reserve. Regeneration of oaks in the reserve is poor, due to many reasons, even trampling harms baby trees.

At the session, we will collect acorns (from native oaks), plant them in pots, with labels, take them home, and keep in the garden. They will need to be exposed to rain so they don’t dry out. We will plant them when saplings the following year in the the very special areas which will be the “community oak forest”.

We will also measure some oak trees and do some oak tree leaf art.

Presently areas are being cleared of invasive species by some of our team, along with Friends of Childwall Woods. We will use these areas to re-establish native woods for future generations to enjoy and watch the trees grow.

The session is £1.50 per family.
